Hormone therapy

Hormones work to rejuvenate, regenerate, and restore vital internal functions throughout the body. So keeping them in balance is necessary for good health and disease prevention – especially as we age. Hormone imbalance in men and women can lead to a variety of health and quality of life issues. By restoring these hormones to a natural balance, your body can experience better overall health.

BioTE Hormone Therapy

BioTE (Bioidentical Hormone Therapy) is a hormone therapy treatment that utilizes small pellets of all-natural, bio-identical estrogen and/or testosterone which is metabolized consistently into the body as needed. Optimize your hormone levels with tiny pellets placed just under the skin for safe, clinically effective results. Results typically last 3-4 months for women and 5-7 months for men.

BioTE at Skin Rehab

At Skin Rehab, we believe in finding the best treatments for patients that is why we partnered with BioTE® for hormone optimization. BioTE Pellets release a steady flow of hormones in the body unlike topical, oral or injectable hormones that can fluctuate between doses. Treatment is done in the office in a quick 15-20 minute procedure, 2 to 4 times a year. The pellets we use are bio-identical which means they have the same chemical structure as the hormones our body already makes. This allows the hormone to be well accepted by the body, decreasing side effects or risks.

Hormone Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

What is my first step?

We recommend a consult with Amy Suda, DCNP as the first step to hormone optimization. At this consult, your health assesment will be completed and reviewed with the provider. Please bring a list of medications you are currently on, Your labs will also be drawn at this time. Call 701.379.0140 to schedule.

What should I do before the procedure?

One week before the procedure, if possible, stop all NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen sodium, etc.). No fasting in advance of the procedure is required.

What test is required before insertion?

We require a comprehensive blood panel which you can discuss with your Skin Rehab provider.

What happens during in-office insertion?

During the in-office visit, which only takes a few minutes, patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A small incision is then made for pellet insertion. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage.

What happens during the week following insertion?

After pellet insertion, it’s best to eliminate lower body exercise. You can walk, but extraneous activity is not recommended. Swimming, hot tubs, and bathtubs are to be avoided; however, showers are permitted. After removal of the bandage, normal activity may resume.

How often is pellet insertion needed?

As each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization. Your journey will be customized to fit your specific needs. It takes more than one to two weeks for your hormones to get out of balance, so expect it to take time to resolve.

What happens to the pellets after insertion?

Since the pellets are bio-identical and contain nothing more than the hormones your body naturally produces, the pellets are completely dissolved and absorbed, leaving nothing behind.
